Youth Activism Postdoctoral Fellowship
The Youth Activism Project http://ypp.dmlcentral.net/projects/youth-activism-project, housed in the School of Sociology at the University of Arizona http://sociology.arizona.edu/, invites applications for a one-year postdoctoral fellowship on youth and participatory politics to begin in 2015 (start dates are negotiable, although candidates should expect to start no later than July 2015, but would preferably start earlier).
The Youth Activism Project, directed by Dr. Jennifer Earl http://jearl.faculty.arizona.edu/, is part of the MacArthur Network on Youth and Participatory Politics http://ypp.dmlcentral.net/. It is focused on youth engagement in protest, particularly online protest and more ephemeral forms of activism.
The postdoctoral fellow will be responsible for working with the PI to design and implement research studies related to overall project themes, including:
-analysis of quantitatively content coded protest websites;
-conducting interviews and focus groups with youth about online protest;
-conducting literature reviews in relevant areas; and
-supporting and collaborating in project publications.
Competitive applicants will have a background in social movement studies, political communication, and/or political sociology and have strong mixed methods skills, including statistical and general programming skills (although candidates without those skills may apply). All candidates must have a Ph.D. in hand by the commencement of the fellowship and would preferably have received their Ph.D. within the past three years.
