Fire in a marina

Our local town (volunteer) fire department has a standing rule. If a boat catches fire in a marina it should be towed into open water and allowed to burn. Firemen are cautioned not to attempt to extinguish a fire on a boat which may hold several hundred gallons of flammable fuel. Fortunately grappling hooks and/or Danforth style anchors which serve the same purpose are easy to come by on the Hudson River.
