On paper this boat looks great, so it was with anticipation  that I went
aboard the new CS 42 at the Annapolis Boat Show last  fall.  Unfortunately, I came
away a bit disappointed.  The boat had a bit the appearance of a prototype
rushed to  completion in time for the show.  There were also a couple  of
design features I didn't like.  The aft salon is built flush with the  sides
leaving no route aft along the outside.  There are side  doors to either side of the
lower helm which lead out to the deck  going forward (also up some steps aft
to the upper level) but the  openings seemed awfully small to me for regular
use.  Certainly  not ideal for transiting locks...

Although the narrow beam may be a boon to those with  dockominiums, it cuts
way down on interior space.  In comparison  with the Endeavour TrawlerCat 44
(which was docked right next door)  the CS 42 seemed kinda small inside, more
like a monohull  trawler.

The boat on display had twin Yanmar 240-hp engines, but at the  time, they
were unable to give any performance figures, saying  that sea trials were
planned after the show.  (I was  unimpressed).

A few weeks later I received an email saying they'd completed sea  trials and
were seeing about 18 kt cruise and estimated a 500 mile (nm?)  range at this
speed.  With 400-gallons of fuel, this works out to  about 15gal/hour and
performance roughly on par with the TrawlerCat 44 using the  same engines.

I don't mean to sound too negative, I'm sure production boats will  improve
-- but first impressions are important!

Henry

(Incidentally, base price of the CS 42 at the show was  $399,950)

the new CS Power Cat42. Wow.  15 '  beam that will fit in my dockominium

well.

Do you or anyone else have  any info on this boat?

I've left voice-mail for Paul Tennyson,  owner of CS Yachts, to
provide an update so I can post it here.

In  the meantime, the CS site is:  http://www.csyachts.com/power.htm

If anyone has any information  on the new model from an old name on
the yachting scene, please  post.
