City wants to remove the chief of police duties from the elected city
marshall position and take away the pay from the City Marshall position. My
concern is regarding the pay. Statute says that the City Marshall shall be
paid as prescribed by ordinance, but can the pay be $0?

If he is elected, you cannot reduce his compensation during his term in office. Okla. Const., Art. 23 §10.

Right, but my question is in regards to the amount moving forward. Can it
be nothing or must it be at least nominal?

I think it can be nothing. Town Board members may receive a salary, but I don’t know any that do.
Good Luck!
