From Nick Bonomo:

6/4 - Milford, Milford Pt -- 5 adult RED KNOT

The tides today (and apparently last night) were very high. One of the
two Piping Plover nests was washed out, but the one on higher ground
made it!

From Chris Elphick, et al.

6/5 Lieutenant River, Old Lyme -- 1 Least Bittern (just across from the ramp on Rte 156) and 1 Caspian Tern (heading S over Upper Island, a short paddle downstream).

Saltmarsh sharp-tailed sparrows are still singing a fair bit.  It is likely that nests were flooded in the last day or two though.  More high high tides are due next week, so after 16th, there should be a lot of birds starting to re-nest and a resurgence of singing.

As Nick noted yesterday, the tides for the last day or two have been much higher than predicted.  There's a great NOAA site where you can look at both the predicted tide heights and then compare them to the measured levels:

http://tidesandcurrents.noaa.gov/data_menu.shtml?stn=8461490%20New%20London,%20CT&type=Tide%20Data

You can change the time frame to look back and forwards in time.  If you use this site to estimate when high tide will be make sure you change the time zone to local time as GMT seems to be the default.
