Cruising America's Great Loop and other inland routes
View all threadsHello Newbie Carolyn,
Folks have done the Great Loop in all sorts of floating "vessels". You really need to examine what your unique comfort levels require e.g. like camping in a tent or stay at resort hotels? Also you don't say whether or not you are single handing. That alone makes a huge difference in boat selection. I suggest you attend the AGLCA Roundevouz in Norfolk and plan to attend the looping boat forum representing trawler, fast cruiser, small boat and sail as well as the looper crawl.
Ultimately, you need to answer these questions yourself, but first must know to ask yourself those most critical to "you" to define the best boat.
Best of Luck,

And don't forget to factor in your financial considerations for: (1)
purchase cost of boat ; (2) maintenance costs/budget; (3) cruising
budget. These items will have a significant bearing on the boat you
select. Of those three, your cruising budget can be the most flexible
since you have a great deal of control over many of the expenses
involved in that category (anchor vs. marina, eat in vs. eat out, go
fast vs. go slow, etc).
As Joe says - you'll have to answer these questions yourself.
