12/11 Milford, Connecticut Audubon Coastal Center, 9:40am-11:15am, high
tide receding, sunny, 38F , slight breeze.
What a beautiful morning to be at the Coastal center and a walk along the
shoreline! Just a light breeze, the marsh and LIS were like glass. On the
marsh- several Ring billed and Herring gulls and 1 drake Bufflehead.
On the grounds and paths: 38 pigeons, 5 cardinals (3 male, 2 female), 30
Mourning doves tucked in at the top of tree in the sun, 5 White throated
sparrows, 4 Song sparrows, 8 House sparrows, 6 Chickadees, 2 Tufted
titmice,
2 Mockingbirds, 2 American Goldfinch, 6 House Finches, 1 juvenile Red
tailed hawk cruising around.
On the Long island sound side and shoreline: conservative estimate of 300
Sanderlings and 300 Dunlin actively feeding along the shoreline,5 Great
black backed gulls, numerous Herring and Ring billed gulls, 11 horned
larks,
17 American black ducks, 15 Brant, and 3 Loons ( 1 Red throated loon and
2 Common).
