About PCD:
The Pierce Conservation District is a sub-division of state government created under RCW 89.08 and established in 1949 with the purpose of working with local landowners to conserve natural resources.

The District's knotweed program is supported by multiple stakeholders and emphasizes the identification and eradication of non-native invasive knotweed stands in the South Prairie Creek and upper Nisqually River watersheds, as well as various other areas elsewhere in Pierce County.  Knotweed is categorized as a Class B weed for the aggressive way it reproduces, colonizes new spaces, crowds out and degrades native plant communities, encourages bank erosion, and diminishes critical salmon and wildlife habitat.
