Diesel/Electric Generator News

Hello All,

New subject:

I just received the email below from Glacier Bay/OSSA Powerlite which
confirms what I have recently stated about "new technology" needing to prove
itself before I can recommend it.  It appears this one failed the field test
and although I find it extremely difficult to believe they could take two
years to come up with a replacement engine for their generator I hope it
means they are doing a better job to ensure nothing goes wrong next time.

I know they have many units out there on boats already and I would like to
hear back from anyone who is using the Glacier Bay system and could provide
a report on its operation, good or bad.

FYI:  Another marine electric power company, Solomon Technologies has been
renamed and is now operating as Technipower Systems as of September 28,
2009.

Cheers,

Graham

Dear Captain Graham,

Thank you for your interest in Glacier Bay, Inc. and our marine power
systems.

I am sorry to say that we will be having a lengthy production pause while we
redesign our gensets to use Yanmar Marine diesels.  We have found that
service for the Mercedes engines we were using is difficult in some parts of
the world.  The change to Yanmars will mean that our systems can be serviced
almost anywhere, but it may take several years before the new gensets are
designed, tested, and available again on the market.

I will let you know of significant developments, but we are unlikely to be
ready for your current design cycle.

Kind regards,

N. Bruce Nelson
