Hi everyone,

We are new to the club but need your help.  Our dog Dexter is going to need ligament repair surgery on his right rear knee.  Does anyone have a surgeon they would highly recommend in the Twin Cities area?  Thanks for your help.

Dr Scott Murphy with Twin Cities Veterinary Surgery is excellent. He has done 3 knees with my family. I work at a vet clinic in Blaine and he is the only Board Certified Orthopedic Surgeon that we use.

Bob & Michelle-
We had a Newf that had hips and knee surgery done.    We were recommended to
go to the U of M with the hips and to a vet in Inver Grove Heights for the
knee surgery and were very satisfied.  The surgeon's name was Dr Levine and
I would highly recommend him to anyone.

A big question is where it is convenient for you.
All of the surgeons recommended are very good and I have had good
experiences with all of them (never had a torn cruciate repaired in
Minnesota, though)
If you go to the U be prepared for more time because you will be part of the
teaching process.

I should also mention that Dr. Conzemius has studied the outcome of ACL
surgery in Newfoundlands for many years and one of his conclusions is that
you should use the surgical technique favored by your surgeon, that is more
important for a good outcome than insisting that your surgeon use a
technique you think is better.  In his study, there was no statistically
significant difference in outcome (although many Newf owners swear by one or
the other).

Good luck!
