Today I drove to Waterford to visit with Susan and Greg Han on Allegria,
great folks.  They will join me again tomorrow at Fort Edward.  On the way
down I stopped off at several locks and piers and checked the conditions.

The Erie Canal is toast and will be so for awhile so many cruisers have
changed their plans to the Champlain canal, so I figgered you all needed an
update there.

The Champlain Canal is all fine and dandy, though the water is maybe 2 feet
higher than normal.  This affects bridge clearances.

Today, the entire Champlain is passable with 17 feet bridge clearance, but
no higher.  usually the southern Champlain has higher bridges, but the high
water has reduced it to 17 feet.  The upper Champlain past Fort Edward
(where I am) is always fixed at 17 feet and that's all fine, no high water
above Lock C-7.

Ports are surprisingly half empty, lots of room everywhere.  Mechanicville
had only 2 boats this evening, and Fort Edward not many more.

If you can manage the 17 foot limit, come on up.  If ya can't manage 17
feet, you're gonna be our guest for quite awhile.

Waterford will be closed the next few days, either for rising water which
is expected for tomorrow, or for the Steamboat Meet which was a previously
scheduled event which always closes The Waterford Pier.  Not sure what will
actually happen ... if Waterford gets closed for water, then the Steamboats
are coming up to my place.  I don't think they will bring the fireworks
barge up here though!

Cruisers wanting to stay at Waterford will be put above Lock E-2 on the
flight, probably Lock C-3.

One thing though:  Your mileage may vary!  It's raining right now.
Heavily.  Again.

My main recommendation is to get rid of your boat and buy an American Tug,
which can get under 12 feet bridges.  Life is good if ya have one of those.
Tug 82 came thru a few days ago, and Tug 68 is expected at Ft. Edward
tomorrow.

Or you can say to hell with boating and do what I'm doing now:
