A good friend with twin Cummins 220's, Mr. Colin Lo, just completed a 6
1/2 day straight run from Manila to Singapore. Because his crew had
to get back to Hong Kong for the China Sea sailboat race they made a
fast passage at 8.75+ knots. 1400 NM total using about 2200 liters (580
gallons) of their 3113 liter (822 gallons) capacity. This is about 3.6
gallons per hour. Props are 3 blade 27 x 18; 2:1 ratio. He didn't report
the RPM but I estimate about 1600.
Colin is not a TWL listree but I'm sure he would answer any questions
about his experience with Cummins. colin@phuket.ksc.co.th He is
continuing his trip to Thailand now.

Subject: TWL: Cummins engine performance
Hi Bob:
These engines are doing almost identical to the 200 HP Perkins Turbo'd 6
cylinders, that I replaced. According the the manufacturer I can run
them
at low rpm and they will probably last forever. They do recommend to
periodically run them at high rpm so the connecting rods will be
extended
and remove any ridge that I might be wearing into the cylinder walls.
Also
it is good to get the carbon off the turbo blades. So far I have not
found
any carbon or smoking when I open it up.
Good luck with your new boat.
