Some cities pass an ordinance incorporating by reference the uniform code they want to apply, such as the IPMC, an then in the same Ordinance delineate sections that they intend to modify, so the whole adoption plus exceptions are all in the same ordinance. Hope this helps.

Good morning everyone. I hope you are staying healthy and safe
We are considering passing the International Property Maintenance Code but it conflicts with many of our existing ordinances on old buildings, nuisance abatement and the process we use to enforce our code through our city commission and city court.
I am curious if others have implemented the IPMC and if so how it is modified, if at all, to prevent inconsistent code provisions.
I have heard that some cities simply pass it and ignore provisions that conflict with existing ordinances but that bothers me to have conflicting laws and I can see how our citizens might be confused if any ever read the IPMC or our code of ordinances.
Your input, suggestions and insight are appreciated.
