Cruising America's Great Loop and other inland routes
View all threadsWe saw Tug 44 docked in front of our boat at Winter Harbor last Thursday and eventually found Fred. We'd never met, but he had a certain weary look and that smile that comes from partying so he was easy to spot. Said hello, had a brief chat and told him how much fun we have reading his postings and then had to run off to the airport. Always a hoot to run across a legend of the list while we do the loop.

You have it right, Al. Weary and smiling is the correct description. I
know a lot of the captains/crews on the canal corp tugs ... and encountered
a lot of them this trip ... and each meeting necessitates a party! In a 3
week trip running singlehanded, I ate dinner alone maybe once a week. This
is the Erie Party Canal.
And it is always fun to meet folks from this list ...
