Dear Gators,
For those of you who were able to get alternate accommodations, we are so happy that you can join us for a weekend of cheering, volunteering...and don't forget training!!! Due to the accommodations at the NSA, I know that some of you will not be able to make it up to Lake Placid...we understand and ask that you please let the volunteer coordinators know that you are no longer able to help.
Volunteering:
For those of you who are doing bike handling and gear bags (12pm-4pm) on Sunday, you should be receiving emails such as the ones attached. Please let me know if you haven't and I will forward any additional details. The volunteer meeting at 4pm on Saturday will be at the finish line area on the bleachers....LOOK FOR THE BIG GREEN SIGN!!!!!!
Training:
I know people are arriving at different times/different days and there will be different paces, however, perhaps we can figure out a group swim, bike and run. Let me know if any of you are interested in any of the following, below is a tentative plan:
Friday - swim / run
Saturday - bike - one loop of the course (56 miles)
Sunday* - on your own/volunteer
*On your own training...FYI - you will get plenty of running and maybe even strength training as you volunteer with bike handling and run to the different points to see our Gators pass by on the course!
Please let me know if I forgot anyone below...or if you have any questions. More details on the training part if there is any interest.

Greetings Gators! Is it really possible that Ironman Lake Placid is only 5
days from now? Well, apparently it is! Hoo-Rah!
I have volunteered to organize the training opportunities for those of us
traveling to Lake Placid this weekend. So from here on out please direct
questions to me and I'll do my best to provide actual answers to them.
As Michelle stated in her email last week, we are looking at the following
group opportunities:
Friday 7/24 @ 4:00PM: Open Water Swim in Mirror Lake - Meet at the swim
start area to pretend you're an Iron Man swimmer! I really don't know much
about this lake but everybody assures me it's awesome. After swimming
there is a potential group or on your own run, we can figure that out once
we are all there. Bring your running shoes just in case.
Saturday 7/25 @ 8:00AM: Iron Man Bike Loop - 56 mile ride (one loop of the
actual bike course). This will be NO DROP. I repeat, NO DROP. I say that
twice so you remember to wait for me since I'll probably be slow and hung
over from Friday night festivities (one can hope, right?) I'll do some
additional planning for this, but from what I've already heard there will
be plenty of folks out riding the loop, so it should be a great ride with
plenty of company along the way. I've also heard that you should not count
on water being available along the way, so plan to BRING AS MUCH WATER AS
POSSIBLE. At a minimum two larger bottles.
Saturday 7/25 @ ??: Some have expressed interested in additional swimming
on Saturday, but we have not yet set a time for when this may occur. More
to come on this.
Right now the forecast for Friday and Saturday is looking clear but cooler,
so pack accordingly. I'm told the weather can change on a whim, so keep
that in mind.
What I would like, from all those who are interested:
Please email me back and let me know if you are interested in attending
these group meet-ups and if so which ones you are interested in. If you
are "not sure" but still interested just indicate that.
When you email me back, please include your cell phone number, just in
case something changes and I need to send a group text or other immediate
communication.
If you have any friends with you who are not Gators but who want to
hang out with us, send along their names and emails as well and I'll add
them to the future communications.
If anybody has additional input or ideas please let me know. This is
my first trip up for this event so I don't have much to go on.
I am going to post this on Facebook very shortly and create an event for us
to communicate there officially, but as I'm not sure everybody looks there
often I'm sending this email. This will be the last email out to the full
list so as not to spam those who are not interested, so PLEASE email me
back if you're interested so I don't lose track of anybody.
Thanks,
Chris
