danah's book about teens is great. But the students at university are
entering adulthood.
So they may want a complement to danah's book
That's why Lee Rainie and I wrote Networked. It is readable -- written for
a broad intelligent audience -- as well as with scholarly chops -- 50 pp
of Endnotes for followup reading.
It covers a wide range of topics, and I know of a score of profs. who
have taught from it as their primary text.
It covers a range of topics: community, family, work, creativity,
information, and the future. Pls specific framing chapters on the turn to
social networks, the internet, and mobile
Overall, 14K people have bought Networked and we're in our 5th printing
Not being given away for free, but low cost: $15 for pb and $9 for Kindle.
And as a bonus, courses that buy 20+ get either Lee or me to Skype in for
a lecture to the course.

Networked is receiving CITASA's best book award this year.
And Lee Rainie is receiving the ASA-wide award for Contribution to the
public good, recognizing both the book and his 14+ year run directing the
Pew Internet and American Life Foundation.
