We have the same problem on Swan Song...listed and originally sold as a
Roughwater 58' we can't find anything that is this length!
We are:
55' 6" on the waterline
58'10" on deck.
59' 4" from the front of the teak forward teak coaming to the aft edge of
the stern coaming.
66' 6" from the front of the Fortress anchor to the back of the swim
platform.
We have been eyed closely by some marinas but none have yet brought out the
dreaded tape. However, a good country boy like myself can just stride down
the dock and say "wow, that's way bigger than 58'".
I'm sure glad all the marinas we visit are staffed by urbanites ;-)
In today's marketing driven world we have 67' yacht....heck the value just
climbed by a stroke of the pen ;-)
I guess this all says that you really need to look well beyond the published
numbers when you are boat shopping or trying to get a handle on the boat you
already have.
The original sales brochure listed the weight as 66,000 lbs. However we have
been weighed twice on a travel lift that is certified and weighed 93,000 &
change the first time and 95,000 & change the 2nd time when we were filled
with fuel but still lacking 200 gallons of water. We estimate that we'd
break the 96,000 lb mark loaded right now.
If we used the 66,000 lbs figure and got hauled with a 40 ton hoist, for
example, who do you think would have the problem if the straps/lift broke
and dropped the boat??
There are two lifts here in Puerto La Cruz rated at 50 and 55 tons
respectively. I looked at them the other day and given the condition of the
parts I can see (straps, cables, lift motor brakes, hydraulic lines, etc)
I'd take a least 20% off those ratings! So they are a no go for us. The
other travel lift here is a 70 ton. Our friends were just hauled/launched
and they're 115,000. So this is the one we'll go with.
So always make sure you really know all the specs of your boat. How you use
this info is up to you ;-)
As always YMMV....
