Group,
Have a Town that has not been able to locate its founding documents. Multiple fires and changing counties years ago have led, in part, to this problem. Been operating as a Statutory Town form of government with 3 board members. How do I go about confirming this is correct with no documentation. Needed for obtaining severely needed grants, etc. Thanks in advance

Ditto! I need the same if anyone knows how to find them. I have gone to the county courthouse, the Secretary of State’s office, and through every city file cabinet. Would love insight into finding copies.
Sent from my iPhone which randomly rearranges my thoughts and letters. Apologies in advance for any illogical responses.

I seem to recall the Oklahoma Historical Society may have information regarding some towns early incorporation. About OHS | Oklahoma Historical Society If the town is in Indian Territory and you are looking for a pre-statehood incorporation under the laws of Arkansas then the national archives in Fort Worth may have the record as part of the archived court records.

Larry, I suggest talking to property owners within the original platted
town. The founding documents should appear in the older base abstracts.
Good luck

It is my understanding a number of cities are having this same problem and that OWRB will accept an opinion letter from the City Attorney; I’ve attached what I submitted for Mannford – we understand this has satisfied the requirement for formation documents.

Larry,
If a municipality cannot find the incorporation documents needed for the Sam.gov/ Unique Identity Numberhttps://sam.gov/content/duns-uei (This number is replacing the DUNS number and it is needed for all ARPA and federal grants in the future), the municipality can send the Oklahoma Secretary of State historical evidence that they are a municipality under 11 O.S. §, 2-101 (B)https://www.oscn.net/applications/oscn/DeliverDocument.asp?CiteID=75750 (pasted below) and it will be presumed the municipality is incorporated unless someone challenges it. According to the Secretary of State's office, this evidence can be newspaper clippings and meeting minutes. The correct number to call for this process at the secretary of state's office is (405) 522-2520.

Larry,
A citizen at one of the towns I used to help told me that it was available by calling the National Archives, but I do not have a number.
Let us know if that helps.

Group,
Have a Town that has not been able to locate its founding documents. Multiple fires and changing counties years ago have led, in part, to this problem. Been operating as a Statutory Town form of government with 3 board members. How do I go about confirming this is correct with no documentation. Needed for obtaining severely needed grants, etc. Thanks in advance
