Cruising America's Great Loop and other inland routes
View all threadsThings are turning out worse than I reported earlier today:
"Mariners are advised that a large scour hole has been detected beneath a
supporting pier for the movable dam at Lock E-13. Repairs are underway
to address the problem.
The Erie Canal between Lock E-12 and E-14 is expected to remain closed
for two to three weeks to allow these repairs to be safely and
successfully completed.
Upon completion of the repairs and necessary inspections, the water
levels in this area will be returned to normal, and this section of the
Erie Canal reopened."

I have a photo of a diver inspection at Lock E11 back in 2006 when I
happened to be there. That day they found all was OK. They do this every
few months and after any flood event.

Also on that page is a shot of Cindy who was the chief of the lock there at
the time, Cindy was my crew on board Tug 44 last weekend at the Tugboat
Roundup on Sunday for the Push Off Contest.
