I have not yet used the Furuno wifi radar on the open sea but I recently
realized it is missing one feature that seems basic for collision
avoidance. The app inexplicably does not include the ability to snap a
bearing line to a target of concern. So there is no easy way to track if an
approaching vessel is on a collision course. I guess I will have to keep
measuring its bearing and writing down the numbers to see if we are on a
collision course. Sort of like Korean War era technology. Tech support
suggested maybe that is because there is insufficient power in an iPad to
draw this line. That seems highly doubtful.
I hope that in the near future Furuno adds that feature to the app and also
lets the app increase the level of the alarm sound when a target enters a
designated area.
