Subject: Update: Schatz-Murkowski 2020 Census resolution
============ Forwarded message ============
Hello,
Just wanted to flag that our resolution was hotlined earlier today. Because we introduced and hotlined the bill at the same time, we don’t have number until it passes by unanimous consent (currently, it’s listed as: S.Con.Res.___: Recognizing the importance and significance of the 2020 Census and encouraging individuals, families, and households across the United States to participate in the 2020 Census to ensure a complete and accurate count).
We received no indication that any office will place a hold on this resolution, so we expect it to pass the Senate by the end of the week. At that point, we will work with the House to have them pass the concurrent resolution quickly,
so that Congress can speak with one voice on this issue. Because this is concurrent resolution, there is no House version. The both chambers have to pass the same resolution (like a normal bill).
We sent out our press release on this last week. Please feel free to share that around: https://www.schatz.senate.gov/press-releases/schatz-murkowski-urge-passage-of-bipartisan-resolution-to-recognize-critical-role-of-census-importance-of-full-and-accurate-count
On a separate note, in the FY20 omnibus agreement, we secured $7.558 billion for the Census Bureau, with $7.284 billion for the Periodic Censuses and Programs account, and $6.696 billion specifically for the 2020 Census. This was our ask
of leadership and the committee (letter attached). The funding bill is expected to pass by the end of the week as well.
Happy to keep you updated as we move forward, and thank you all for your work on this.
Best,
Trelaine
