Airport Solar Webinar:  How to Maximize the Financial Benefits of Renewable Energy and Sustainability
[http://pr.ak.vresp.com/e24c60610/www.airportlawconference.com/images/airplane_solar_picture.jpg]

With increasing competition from air carriers and the impact on airport operation budgets, airport operators continue to seek ways to reduce costs while enhancing revenue.  At the same time, public policies and expanding markets have dramatically driven down the cost of renewable energy and have made sustainability a strong industry brand, while the cost of traditional power sources remain inherently volatile.  As a result, airports across the country are looking to renewable energy - and solar power in particular - to capture these multi-layered benefits.

Join airport and renewable energy experts from Kaplan Kirsch & Rockwell and Harris Miller Miller & Hanson (HMMH) as we share insights into the technical, financial, regulatory, and legal issues associated with developing solar facilities on airport property.

Our objective is to provide an overview of the opportunities and challenges associated with airport solar projects while also focusing in on the particular issues facing airports of differing sizes and regions.  We will then take airport decision-makers through the critical questions they will face when determining whether and how to proceed with an airport solar project.

Attendees will learn:

  • Technical considerations associated with airport solar, including space requirements, solar glare, and compatibility with existing airport operations
  • Financial considerations, including ownership models, tax incentives, costs, and potential revenue streams
  • Regulatory issues, including FAA grant assurances and airspace safety, as well as environmental and utility approval processes
  • Ancillary legal issues, including land lease and power purchase contracting required to bring a proposed project to fruition
  • How an airport might evaluate the merits of adding solar using a decision-tree matrix

Date:  Wednesday, December 10, 2014
11 AM (PST) / 12 PM (MST) / 1 PM (CST) / 2 PM (EST)
Estimated duration:  60 minutes

Target Audience:  Airport decision-makers, project managers, and counsel involved in project planning, and solar stakeholders interested in distributed generation.

Speakers:

  • Stephen Barrett, Director of Clean Energy, HMMH
  • John Putnam, Partner, Kaplan Kirsch Rockwell
  • Benjamin Israel, Partner, Kaplan Kirsch Rockwell

Cost:    Free
