Cruising America's Great Loop and other inland routes
View all threadsSurely I can't be the only person who estimates that the
timetable for that is totally fraught with booger-bears?
Are they unaware of the "old saw" that the worst thing you
can have when boating is a schedule?
Are those folks totally ignorant of times to get through
locks and speed limits in various places in both Canada
and USA?? I know the Beneteau is billed as a "fast trawler"
but I believe that there are many places where they simply
can not travel rapidly. They are also apparently unaware
or ignoring the fact that locks are frequently CLOSED for
unexpected reasons.

I'm guessing they just put a schedule in to have something to work from. When we did the Loop, I also put a schedule in just for a starting point.(Interestingly enough, however, we arrived home one day later than the schedule I had entered 11 months earlier!!). It's not a schedule that's dangerous-it's an unwavering commitment to that schedule that's bad!

Hi Mac and others,
Have you seen a detailed schedule for the Beneteau trip? If so can you
forward the link. The only schedule I saw is leaving Annapolis on May 15
and returning in September or 4 to 4 1/2 months. If they bypass Canada and
go through the Great Lakes the schedule is probably very doable. I'm
assuming they will not be stopping much. Do you remember how long it took
the girls in the Alumacraft a few years ago? I remember passing them when
we were coming down the Hudson.

Thanks for the update. It looks pretty aggressive for 4+ months but I guess
doable.
The question is why!!!<< Treadnwater<<
2006-2007<<
Treadnwater, I agree wholly with your statement. Their objective is
obviously marketing and in no way will represent how the majority of the
people do the Loop. Obviously there are a number of people who do it in 4-6
months. And then there are others, like us, who are currently starting year
8 doing the Loop backwards from Texas and have made it to Baltimore.
However, we plan to leave the Chesapeake this summer and hopefully end up
around Jacksonville, FL.
The thing to remember, though, is that they are on a boat traveling and
enjoying. It's much better than hanging around the Hacienda and wondering
what it would be like out there on the open waterways.
As always, Different Strokes for Different Folks.
