Anyone know what happens if you put a couple of pounds of pressure on a
Racor vacuum gauge? Does it damage it, or just not read properly for the
moment? It's not clear to me that the Racor gauges are compound gauges.
Specifically, consider a polishing system with a depth filter, a pump with
a 2 PSI return, then Racor filters to the engines. If the Racors are
completely clean, and the pump was running there would be a positive
pressure of up to 2psi at the gauge. Would this damage it?
Trying to figure out what to keep and what to replace in changing things
around...

The 2-psi will not harm the Racor gauge, but!
All, except the primary fuel filter on the engine, should be on the
suction side of the polishing pump? If the filter housing develops a leak,
you will pump diesel into the bilge if the filters are one the discharge
side of the pump. Unless the leak is small, you won't know it for a long
time. That could spell disaster.
If the filters are on the suction side of the pump, any leak in the filter
will allow air to enter. Your engine will tell you of the problem
immediately because it will start to run in a most disturbing way.
Good Luck!

Hi, I am in the process of planning for some interior upholstery refurb.
It's a small boat and I got sticker shock when we started to estimate nearly
50 yds... oh boy I'm glad she owes me this huge favor 'cause that means this
would be a 2.5K job on a 20k boat otherwise!! Would love suggestions for
places to shop in the BC/WA/north OR area for DIY fabric, preferably
marine-ish man-mades. I am not too specific on colors (within
boat-reason!!), prefer to cash and carry. Your suggestions appreciated,
thanks in advance! ben
