Pierce Conservation District Launches New Agricultural Plastics
Recycling Program

Although lower fuel prices continue to depress plastic recycling
markets, the District has found a company located in Ellensburg that
collects a limited array of agricultural plastics for recycling.  D&C
Distributors is partnering with the Pierce and Thurston Conservation
Districts and some livestock operations to keep hay twine and straps,
haylage wrappers, and woven polypropylene sacks (such as fertilizer,
feed, and seed bags) from ending up in landfills.

D&C will provide stands that hold woven polypropylene super sacks to
participating drop-off locations in which to collect the items.  In
Pierce County the drop-off locations are: King Feed in Eatonville, The
Graham Hay Market, Del's Feed and Farm Supply in Spanaway, Nature Boys
Farm and Pet Supply in Spanaway, Stan Banks Hay in Graham, Sumner Animal
Grub, and the Pierce Conservation District office in Puyallup.  The King
Feed store in Enumclaw is also participating.  Please contact the
Thurston Conservation District for Thurston County drop-off locations.
Public drop-off is not a required component of the program- agricultural
businesses can have receptacles for their own private use. Please call
Rene' at 253 845-9770 x 106 if you would like more information on having
a receptacle at your facility.
