There has been a forum, but the service it was based on dropped support
for e-mail and so it stopped working.

You can read, but not post, via the archive at
https://lists.openscad.org/empathy .

The real answer is to use a mail client with threading support, like
Thunderbird.

Here's a snippet of what I see in Thunderbird:

and I can do things like "mark thread as read" and "ignore thread".

I can also set up message filters if I need to do something more complex.

There are periodic calls by people saying "can we move this to a
forum?".  The simple answer is that something north of 2/3 of the people
here prefer e-mail, many to the level that they would simply not
participate in a forum-style community.  There are a number of
forum-style communities for OpenSCAD... this just isn't one of them.

That said, if somebody can find a good forum<->email infrastructure and
is willing to set it up and maintain it
, I expect that Michael would be
happy to work with them to integrate with it.
