Cooking underway

Between the diesel engine, crock pot and microwave, you can have a number of cooking sources beyond the galley stove.  We have slow cooked meat on our engine, like spare ribs, and finished them on the grill.  Crock pot can cook or reheat foods like spaghetti, chili or stews.  Can add some precooked noodles. Or rice too.  Gives you a full hot meal.

We leave on the inverter and transfer charge from the engine batteries to the inverter battery while underway.  Reheat foods, or quick snacks like popcorn.

Fresh fruits are great, also a bag of mixed dried fruit is a nice snack base between meals, granola bars too.  Nuts anytime!

Cold plates....sandwiches, veggies, chips are also easy.

Thinking ahead and preparing makes for decent food choices underway.

For Christmas, I bought my wife a convection oven to replace the microwave
oven for the boat. She loves it. Runs it all the time and never uses the gas
stove any more.
Like you, I always run the boat with the inverter on. I like having AC
electric to keep my laptop charged (I run it all the time from the fly
bridge), cell phone, etc. I also like to heat up a cup of coffee when I get
drowsy.

I bought my wife a convection oven to replace the microwave
oven for the boat.

It seems that it is possible to have both -- in one unit.  Here is an
example:

Amazon.com: Cuisinart CMW-200 1-1/5-Cubic-Foot Convection Microwave Oven
with Grill
http://www.amazon.com/Cuisinart-CMW-200-5-Cubic-Foot-Convection-Microwave/dp/B001C2J0FG

(Hope that long URL does not wrap and break. If it does, use this:
http://preview.tinyurl.com/75kd7q4 )

In haven't tried one of these ovens, but now that the idea came up, I
just may.  They are not expensive.

It is possible this unit is too large for many boats, but there may be
smaller units on the market,  This is just the first one that I came upon.

I did have to choose our convection microwave carefully to ensure that it
fit in the space the old microwave used.
It sits on top of the cabinet that holds the fridge
http://tinyurl.com/4obw5g4

The old microwave was screwed down to the cabinet it sat on. I liked that
mounting technique. To do so, you have to remove the metal case of the
microwave, figure out where you want to drill. Drill the case first, then
put the case in place and stick an awl through each drilled hole and press
down into the wood below to mark the places to drill next.

The only real buggadeeboo was that the new convection microwave case has
torx screws instead of Phillips head....bizarre. So I had to go buy a torx
set just to take this goofy thing apart.
