TPCHD to Offer Free Natural Yard Care Workshops This Fall

TACOMA-- Learn about environmentally friendly yard and garden
maintenance this fall during a series of fun, informative and free
natural yard care workshops presented by the Tacoma-Pierce County Health
Department in four locations throughout the county.

Each series of workshops will cover different topics each evening,
including natural lawn care, soil basics, backyard composting, smart
watering techniques and sustainable “Right plant, Right Place”
landscape design.

Workshops will take place from 9:30 a.m.- 12 p.m. at the Spanaway Water
Company, 18413 “B” St., on the following dates:
· September 6: Natural Lawn Care, Soils Basics & Backyard
Composting
· September 13: Smart Watering Techniques, “Right Plant, Right
Place” Garden Design

Workshops will take place from 7-9 p.m. at the Tacoma Nature Center,
1919 S. Tyler St., on the following dates:
· Thursday, September 25: Natural Lawn Care, Soils Basics &
Backyard Composting
· Friday, October 3: Garden Pest Management, “Right Plant, Right
Place” Garden Design
On October 3, workshop participants may preview plants for the Native
Plant Sale on October 4 and must pre-register.

Workshops will take place from 6:30 - 8:30 p.m. at the Peninsula Light
Building, 13315 Goodnough Dr. NW, on the following dates:
· September 16: Natural Lawn Care, Garden Pest Management
· September 23: Soil Basics, Backyard Composting
· September 30: “Right Plant, Right Place” Garden Design,
Smart Watering Techniques

Workshops will take place from 6:30 - 8:30 p.m. at Milton City Hall,
1000 Laurel St., on the following dates:
· September 17: Natural Lawn Care, Garden Pest Management
· October 1: Soil Basics, Backyard Composting
· October 15: “Right Plant, Right Place” Garden Design, Smart
Watering Techniques

All workshops are free, except at the Tacoma Nature Center, where a $5
program fee per household will be charged for materials. Space is
