UT-Austin search for new Radio-Television-Film Department Chair

The Department of Radio-Television-Film (RTF) in the Moody College of
Communication at The University of Texas at Austin invites outstanding
applicants for the position of Chairperson and tenured full Professor (with
possible endowment support) to lead this highly ranked department to new
heights through groundbreaking teaching, research, production, and
storytelling across numerous media platforms.

The RTF department offers a broad range of courses in media arts and media
studies leading to the B.S., M.A., M.F.A, and Ph.D. degrees. Consistently
ranked as one of the top 10 programs, RTF is one of few departments or
schools that teaches media studies and offers practical hands-on training.
RTF also has the benefit of innovative collaborations across one of the
largest, most comprehensive communication colleges in the country. RTF has
approximately 1,000 undergraduate students, 160 graduate students, and 50
full- and part time faculty. Our network of outstanding alumni consists of
Oscar, Emmy, Pulitzer, Peabody, and Cannes Cinéfondation winners, as well
as scholars teaching and conducting research at top universities around the
world.

Applicants for this position should have (1) prior management experience in
academia and/or media industries, (2) a firm commitment to collaborative
and participatory leadership, (3) an innovative and inclusive vision for
the future of the department, and (4) experience and expertise in one or
more of the areas of teaching and scholarship covered by the RTF department
(see http://rtf.utexas.edu for examples). Applicants must be eligible for
appointment as a tenured full professor and have completed a Bachelor's
Degree with at least 15 years of academic and/or professional experience. A
graduate degree (such as an MFA and/or PhD in a relevant field) is
preferred but not required. Preference will be given to candidates who
have: (1) a distinguished record of research, production, teaching,
creative development, and/or management; (2) demonstrated ability to
develop collaborative partnerships with companies, agencies, foundations,
nonprofits, and other organizations; (3) a record of generating and raising
external financial support; and (4) an understanding and appreciation of
current and future media/technology trends and media industry operations.
