As for searching the list archives, I don't know of any method but perhaps someone reading this post does and can respond?
This is pretty primitive (e.g. we're missing many of the features of
the mainstream Google Search, like sorting results by date, and I'm
not sure how frequently the archives are crawled), but you might
nonetheless start with this just-created Google Custom Search, that
covers all of the CollectionSpace mailing list archives:
