Fellow Municipal Attorneys:

As you know, we are having our OAMA virtual conference tomorrow morning.  It is FREE to members of OAMA.  If you have not yet registered, I would encourage you to do so.

I am very excited about all of the changes that we are making to the organization!  A key piece of moving things forward are revisions to the OAMA Bylaws.  Board Members took a considerable amount of time reviewing, discussing, and updating the Bylaws.  Highlights of the proposed revisions include the following:

  • Increasing the number of Directors to thirteen (13), including one (1) from Oklahoma City and one from Tulsa.  These Directors are appointed by the Chief Legal Officer.
  • Two (2) Directors appointed from cities or towns under 50,000 in population, and seven (7) at-large Directors. There is one (1) retired or semi-retired attorney and one (1) prosecutor.  The terms of office  increased to three (3) years rather than two (2).
  • In addition to the thirteen (13), two (2) ex officio Directors who are the General Counsels of OML and OMAG or their designee.
  • Thanks to the assistance of Zoom, the Board will meet monthly rather than quarterly.  This will allow for increased interaction, the ability to communicate more regularly about various issues, and to strategically address the needs of OAMA.
  • Ttwo general business meetings of the membership.  These business meetings will be held in conjunction with the Fall and Spring Conferences.
  • OAMA doesn't have an Executive Director, but the Bylaws have always provided for that possibility.  The Bylaws were expanded to include identification as General Counsel as well.
  • The proposed Bylaw revisions provide for two committees: the Executive Committee and a Finance Committee.  We are hopeful that this will facilitate increased participation among the membership.

I apologize for the delay in getting these to you.  I can send you a redline draft highlighting all of the proposed revisions if you like.

We look forward to seeing you tomorrow!
