Greetings everyone,
At the ASA Meetings in Boston this year, a general consensus was reached at
the Forum on the Status of GBLT persons in Sociology that the ASA GBLTQ
(Gay, Bisexual, Lesbian, Transgender, and Queer) Caucus needs to be revived,
and several participants in the forum decided to take the initiative to lead
the effort to revive the caucus. The Caucus shall serve several purposes,
including, but not limited to: networking, mentoring, a site to voice
concerns that emerge, and a channel through which to pursue collective
action.
One of the primary concerns raised in the forum was that the voices of
people who are not members of the Sexualities section or who are not
studying issues related to sexuality or gender identity/expression were
severely under-represented. Thus, we would like to strongly encourage
GBLTQ-identified individuals and interested allies/advocates who are members
of other sections of ASA to join the GBLTQ Caucus listserv.
The listserv is being hosted on a Google group. Thus, you may choose to
receive a daily digest of all e-mails sent out in a given day, an abridged
summary of daily activity, or individual e-mails. There are two routes that
you may choose from in order to join the listserv:
- You may go to the website at which it is being hosted and request to
join: http://groups.google.com/group/asa-gbltq-caucus. Please make sure to
submit your name, e-mail address, and institutional affiliation with your
request to join.
- You may also send an e-mail directly to the listserv manager, Tim
Ortyl, at ORTYL001@gmail.com to request an invitation to join the listserv.
If choosing this option, please also submit your name and institutional
affiliation in your request.
If you are not personally interested in joining the GBLTQ Caucus Listserv
but you know people who would be, please make sure to forward this message
to them.
Best,
