...well, doesn't that mean nobody is at that address watching out for all my household belongings...

Not if you live on the boat, and the address on the boat card is your mail drop...

:-)

And since you're self-declared paranoid, refer to J. J. Luna (personal security expert), who says NOBODY should ever know your real home address; not UPS, not Fedex, and certainly not the government; so, a mail drop is always a good idea.  Luna has lots of great ideas for handling privacy in the digital age for children, school systems, doctors, medical providers in general, insurance companies, banks accounts, etc.  Hey!  It's never too early to start planning for a career in crime!  And as Judge Napolitano says, if there's a knock on the door and they've got a badge or a government id, they are not there to help!  Google the name for Luna's book, "How to Stay Invisible.." (or something close to that), free download, in .pdf format!  Just because you're paranoid, Bill, doesn't mean "they're" not out to getcha!

Another caution or two while we're being paranoid.  I have, as do
many others, a small GPS navigator with "favorite places" including
"home" stored in it.  I make "home" a few doors down the street in
case someone obtains the GPS, checks "home" and rushes there to take
whatever I left.

Also, my "home" number in my cell phone isn't filed under "Home," but
under a secret name (and it's not #1 on speed-dial).  So it can't be
"lifted" and checked to see if anyone is "home."

Yes, we can learn to worry about all kinds of stuff.  But I agree
that having a mail drop is a good idea -- whether on a boat or not.

For those that are paranoid about addresses, make sure the newspapers do not
post your obit - there will be nothing left in the house for your kids.

For those that work, do not go to work for more than an hour at a time.
Crooks can come to your home and clean it out in a couple of hours with a
U-haul truck.

But a boat card with all your info can save you hours with its convenience.
If it backfires, call your insurance agent.

The answer is to have someone "babysit" the house during your funeral or
memorial service. People have been doing that for years to prevent the
house from being emptied by thieves during a funeral or memorial service!
