Hi everyone,

The Center for Connected Health is now accepting applications for summer interns. This is a great opportunity for undergraduate and graduate students interested in exploring how ICT is being used to transform healthcare. The Center offers a unique blend of learning opportunities due to the ties with Harvard Medical School and as part of the Partners HealthCare System and the affiliation with Massachusetts General Hospital (ranked the #1 hospital in the US).

I am a medical sociologist and research fellow at the Center. I am responsible for coordinating the internship program and would appreciate you forwarding this announcement to students who you think will make excellent candidates.

Thank you,
Tim

Center for Connected Health 2013 Summer Internship Program

The Center for Connected Health (CCH) is accepting applications for undergraduate and graduate student interns for summer 2013.

Founded in 1995, CCH is a division of Partners HealthCare in Boston, founded by Brigham and Women’s and Massachusetts General Hospitals. CCH is working to create a new model for healthcare delivery, by developing programs and innovative strategies to move care from the hospital or doctor’s office into the day-to-day lives of patients.  Leveraging information and communication technology – cell phones, computers, networked devices and simple remote health monitoring tools – the Center is helping providers and patients manage chronic conditions, maintain health and wellness, and improve adherence, engagement and clinical outcomes. By collecting and presenting accurate physiologic and behavioral data to both patients and providers, our connected health initiatives are facilitating data-driven coaching and as-needed provider involvement to help achieve patient care goals.

Summer interns will be a member of an interdisciplinary research team comprised of clinicians, social and behavioral scientists, public health and healthIT professionals. Interns will participate in day-to-day Center activities, including meetings with collaborators from affiliate institutions, other Partners centers, and corporate sponsors.

Graduate interns will select a research focus area and propose a project that can be completed during the 10-week summer internship. For all projects, graduate interns will work closely with Center research mentors and are expected to collaborate on co-authored reports, research proposals, or manuscripts due at the end of the summer program.

Undergraduate interns will have a general interest in healthcare delivery and technology. During the summer, undergraduate interns will work with the Center’s research staff and graduate interns on a variety of programs and research projects.

The Center is focused on the following research topics during Summer 2013.

• Clinical Outcomes and Interventions to Improve Healthcare
• Patient Engagement, Technology Adoption and Acceptance, Health and Digital Lifestyles
• Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Psychological Well-Being, and Behavior Change
• Patient Reported Outcomes and Patient-Centered Outcomes Research
• mHealth and Smartphone Application Development
