Pierce Stream Team, the City of Puyallup, and Stewardship Partners
invite you to a rain garden demonstration installation event on
Saturday, September 18, 9 a.m.-1 p.m.

Volunteers are needed to help install five residential rain gardens
adjacent to Clarks Creek, a salmon-bearing tributary to the Puyallup
River.  Other activities that day include stormdrain marking,
salmon-friendly car wash demonstration, and a live broadcast of the
Ciscoe Morris gardening show on KIRO 97.3.

A component of Low Impact Development, rain gardens are landscape
features that double as stormwater treatment.  By capturing stormwater
run-off from roofs, driveways, and yards, rain gardens filter water
on-site, removing pollutants, allowing for groundwater recharge, and
decreasing the amount of run-off that is discharged into local streams
and rivers through the stormdrain system.  Rain gardens are designed to
be low maintenance and many are planted with native trees, shrubs, and
groundcovers that provide habitat for birds, bees, butterflies, and
other wildlife.

Please register for this event by contacting the Pierce Stream Team at
(253) 845-2973 or streamteam@piercecountycd.org.  See the flyer below
for more information.
