several people have emailed me to ask for more information on how maine cat's
P-47 is handling ocean conditions.  here's the latest test:

tuesday, february 16th, after an interview followed by an "on-the-water" photo
session with members of the european yachting press 'moxie", maine cat's first
production boat left the miami boat show to return to hope town in the abacos,
where she is in charter service.  the weather forecast called for gulfstream
wave heights of 4-6' early but northerly winds picking up in the late morning
with building seas.  as is expected the morning press activites dragged on and
the crew got a late start.  for the majority of the crossing the winds were
east of north and the crew claims they saw waves up to 10' in the axis of the
stream with an average of 5-7'.  there was some relief in that the
periodicity of the waves was "reasonable".  their basic heading toward west
end in the bahamas was close to 60 degrees mag, somewhat off the nose.

eight hours later the boat was anchored at great sale cay and the crew was
napping.  a new microwave was added to the boat in miami.  in the roughest
portion of the crossing the poorly secured microwave launched off a
counter-top and wrecked itself on the cabin sole.

this is the third "stiff" test the boat has had at sea that i am aware of.  i
have yet to find any signs of movement in the hulls or interior structures as
a result of the several rough passages "moxie" has had since this past
september.

last spring in the turks and caicos i was hunkered down in a small marina to
duck a series of low pressure systems  when two south african powercat sister
ships, with professional crew aboard, came through on their way to take up
charter service further to the south.  in far less "bumpy" conditions both
these boats pounded severly and suffered real "wounds".  on one of them crew
was trapped in a "head" when the door no could longer be opened!  further,
headliners were askew and there was significant leakage aboard.  in the
boating "press" i have read several favorable reviews on this model boat.
