Cathy’s note reminded me that we usually bring snacks – not a full potluck because we don’t have tables and chairs, but there are often a few warm crockpots and this year looks like it won’t be terribly cold, so we can actually take our gloves off to hold food!
I hope to see you there Saturday!

Thanks so much, Chris - I think we are going to try it! So there is a potluck? Any suggestions on that, or just bring whatever?
Thanks!

You might want to come around noon for our potluck and socializing with other Newfs in the parking lot and then head home as the older dogs join the parade. I think we have had puppies do the parade before – it moves at a decent pace, but there are lots of kids and noise, so I can see skipping the main event. However, my guess is that the socialization of your puppy beforehand would be good, and something that can be hard to get in the winter when everyone tends to stay indoors.

Hi Chris,
Our puppy is 5 months old, and I am wondering what your thoughts are on his participating in the parade. It seems like such a long afternoon, with so much waiting. The parade route itself isn't that long. He does well with walking on leash (we walk every day), but the parade might be overstimulating, and hard for him to walk at a slow parade pace, especially with so many distractions... And he would get pretty antsy having waited so long.
How "scary" would it be, do you think, for a puppy? Any other thoughts you have?
Thanks so much!

You should have all received a mailer from Ted.
The parade is this Saturday, January 30 in downtown St. Paul. The parade runs from 7th Street at Smith Avenue (we join by cutting in to the line from a parking lot that is about half a block into the parade, near Bonfe’s Auto. The parade goes past Rice Park (where the ice sculptures are) and ends in front of the St Paul Hotel about a block from the Science Museum/Xcel Center ramps. You can park at the start of the parade in a parking lot run by the Salvation Army ($5) or at the Science Museum end. Line up time is about 12:30 and they start blocking off some streets before the parade actually starts at 2.
We are near the end – unit 73 out of 85, so we will probably stand around until after 3. The good side is by the time we get to the end the parade is winding up so it is easier to get to your car and head home (or stop off and join us at deGidio’s or similar for beer and pizza).
Contact Ted at 507-451-7946 or day of parade at 507-339-5720.
Dogs and children welcome!

Sounds fun. I'll make some chili.
Can someone be more specific where the gathering spot is? I know where
Bonfe is.
