We are reading stories of "Florida shutting down" and even spoke to a couple
on a trawler at Coinjock Marina yesterday who experienced being booted out
of the keys.  However, we have not yet run into similar problems in our
journey south.  Tonight were are in Belhaven, NC.  Heading to Morehead City
tomorrow.

We have moved from Fort Myers to Stuart, anchoring out most of the way.  No problem in Clewiston at Roland Martin Marina.  Tried Sunset Marina in Stuart - “closed to new transients”.

Got a slip at Harborage around the corner in Stuart.  Heading up to Jacksonville.  It’s day-to-day but not dire - yet!

The Keys are closed and crazy. Apparently this occurred because of
spring break in Lauderdale and Miami. Because the beaches were loaded
with kids in close proximity. So the kids moved into the Keys and Monroe
County went nuts shutting down almost everything. The current ban closes
all hotels, resorts, vacation homes etc. All their guests all had to
leave last night. The property owners in Marathon are pushing getting
all the tourists out of the Keys out of fear mostly. They cite their
limited hospital facilities as well as "tourists" bringing in the virus.
Mostly it is just fear. They even want to put gates up on US1 in
Homestead to prevent non property owners from entering the Keys. I doubt
that will happen but it could.

Somehow marinas got included by mistake and no one could figure out what
to do. In Marathon at least things calmed down and they told the marinas
not to change anything with the existing customers. I understand that
they are coming up with new rules for marinas. However traveling in the
Keys is a real issue if you need a marina. If you are in a marina then
you are good as long as you stay put.

If you run across issues in the Keys, I would suggest sending an email
to one of the commissioners of Monroe County. Their emails are listed on
their website. They are very responsive and will answer your query right
away. They realize that because of all these rules, everything is
confused. All of the Keys are in Monroe County.

I'm not seeing any reports that are reflecting shut-downs that affect
'cruising' folks, people that are actually going somewhere. I have seen
reports that Palm Beach County has shut-down local recreational boaters
just out for fun.

My brother reports crowds of people last weekend on the sandbar in the river at Orange Beach; so they shut down boat ramps.  How do you prevent people from gathering if they are dead set about doing it?  Martial law and bayonets?

Rich,
Probably does not help much because the situation can change daily.  We just arrived home in VA on Tuesday coming up the ICW from Florida.  We stopped at Atlantic Yacht Basin (BTW $1.93/gal for diesel fuel with BOAT US), Dowry Creek, anchored at Miles Hammock, Osprey Marina (fuel), Charleston Safe Harbor Mega Dock, anchorage at Beaufort, SC, anchorage at north of the Little Mud River, Fernandina City Marina, Palm Coast Marina (fuel), Eau Gallie Yacht Basin, Sunset Bay Marina in Stuart, Roland Martin in Clewiston, Legacy Harbor Marina in Ft. Myers (fuel at Ft. Myers City Marina), and started at Stock Island Village Marina just north of Key West.

Things got a little more complicated with the impacts of the COVID-19 virus once we got to Ft. Myers and the impact increased every day and every stop north.  We experienced the lack of hand sanitizer at PUBLIX in Ft. Myers but no issue with getting TP.  Once we got to Eau Gallie and next grocery stop, there was much more impact and no TP in PUBLIX.  We feel we “beat the closures” by pushing hard north.  We were never denied dockage.  (When we passed Coinjock, not one boat tied up.). Since we were in Key West area, we have kept contact with folks there and the Keys are indeed shut down down for visitors.

Again, much has changed in the last couple of weeks but good luck.
