5/3 Milford, Connecticut Audubon Coastal Center, 9:45am-noon. high tide,
57F, cloudy.
Our Purple Martin colony has a few residents (aside from the sparrows and
starlings). I saw 4 this morning at the gourds and flying around the marsh
. Our ospreys are incubating eggs-female was on the nest all morning; male
osprey was preening on his perch and flying around the marsh. At one
point, the male chased a few Brant which were swimming right under the nest
platform.
At the feeders in front of the building was an Eastern Towhee and a Brown
Thrasher (not a common visitor). House sparrows were taking sand baths. 4
Cardinals , several Red Winged blackbirds, 6 Mourning doves, Common
Grackles, 1 Fish crow, a pair of House finches and Song sparrows.
On the marsh: a pair of mallards, 1 Black duck, conservative estimate of
100 Brant, 12 Mute swans, 3 D.C. Cormorants and 12 Mute swans. One Snowy
egret flew over.
Full report on Ebird.
