The Gig Harbor Fly Shop is hosting a film event down at Tides this
Wednesday and Thursday from 7 p.m. - 9 p.m.

The Sportsman Alliance for Alaska is trying to raise awareness about the
proposed Pebble Mine in the headwaters of Bristol Bay, Alaska. If this
open pit mine (largest in North America) ends up going in it will
destroy this last wild salmon stronghold. These watersheds now at risk
comprise of 30% of the world's sockeye runs with one of the rivers
getting 60 million salmon itself.

This will affect the sport fishing community, commercial fishing
community, as well as native subsistence fishery. This also affects us
in a big way. If the price of sockeye, king, and Coho go up because of
these depleted stocks it will put pressure on our local fisheries here
in Washington. Our fisheries are in a sad state and cannot handle any
additional pressure.

We are hosting a film screening of two really cool documentaries about
the Pebble Mine at Tides Tavern this upcoming Wednesday and Thursday.
Tickets are $5 each and we have all sorts of door prizes.

If anyone has a blog, facebook, or twitter and could help us get the
word out that would be great. Here's a link to our blog post with the
info. click here
