Kingston Field Naturalists (KFN) maintains records in a 50km radius of
MacDonald Park, Kingston. Birders using eBird are encouraged to share their
sightings with 'Kingston FN'. Alternatively, please email or send records

require review and remain unconfirmed unless stated otherwise.
Highlights:
It was a good week in the area with icterids now widespread and Purple and
House Finches busy singing up a storm. The continuing Spotted Towhee at
Prince Edward Point was seen almost daily, and waterfowl numbers are
building. Here are the highlights of the last week:
CACKLNG GOOSE - 2 birds were seen on Wolfe Island on 14th, with singles at
Marshlands CA, Kingston on 16th and Kaiser Cross Road, Prince Edward, on
18th.
TRUMPETER SWAN - there was only one sighting this week, of 4 birds at the
Helen Quilliam Sanctuary (near Frontenac Provincial Park) on 19th.
TUNDRA SWAN - There were very few records this week with 8 at Button Bay,
Wolfe Island on 14th and as many as 25 at Kaiser Cross Road over the course
of the week.
WOOD DUCK - Widespread in low numbers.
NORTHERN SHOVELER - 2 birds were seen at Barrett Bay, Wolfe Island, on 14th,
with a single bird present at Kaiser Cross Road, Prince Edward, all week.
AMERICAN WIGEON - numbers have increased over the week, with a high count of
34 from Kaiser Cross Road, Prince Edward, on 20th.
NORTHERN PINTAIL - good numbers of this species were seen this week with
high counts of 220 from Kaiser Cross Road, Prince Edward, on 20th.
GREEN-WINGED TEAL - birds were present at Kaiser Cross Road, Prince Edward
all week with a high of 4 on18th, with a single at Prince Edward Point on
20th and 1 at Invista, Kingston, also on 20th.
BARROW'S GOLGENEYE - a continuing male was seen at Point Peninsula WMA, NY,
on 14th.
BLACK SCOTER - not typically seen in these parts at this time of year, a
female was seen at Prince Edward Point on 14th.
SANDHILL CRANE - 2 birds were on Yarker Road at Star Corners on 14th and
16th, with another near Odessa on 15th.
KILLDEER - widespread in low numbers.
WILSON'S SNIPE - the first birds to the area were the 2 seen near Napanee on
20th.
ICELAND GULL - a single bird was present at Lansdowne on 14th and 15th.
LESSER BLACK-BACKED GULL - an adult bird was photographed at Lansdowne on
14th.
DOUBLE-CRESTED CORMORANT - just one bird was seen this week, at Amherstview,
on 20th.
NORTHERN GOSHAWK - a single bird was seen/heard several times this week at a
private location near Verona.
RED-SHOULDERED HAWK - the first bird of the season was seen near Lansdowne
on 14th, with further birds seen near Godfrey and Verona later in the week.
ROUGH-LEGGED HAWK - singles were seen on Amherst Island on 14th and 19th,
with another single seen in Amherstview on 15th.
PEREGRINE FALCON - there were widespread sightings this week with birds
reported from downtown Kingston, the Lennox and Addington power station,
Prince Edward Point and Kaiser Cross Road, where 2 birds were seen on 20th.
NORTHERN SHRIKE - singles were seen at Sweets Corners on 14th, the K&P Trail
at Sydenham Road, on 16th and Lemoine Point CA, Kingston, on 20th.
CAROLINA WREN - a continuing bird was seen on Howe Island Ferry Road on
14th.
NORTHERN MOCKINGBIRD - the Kingston birds were not reported this week. A
single was seen at Outlet (near Charleston Provincial Park) on 18th.
SNOW BUNTING - a single bird was seen on Amherst Island on 16th.
EASTERN MEADOWLARK - widespread in low numbers.
SPOTTED TOWHEE - this long-staying celebrity was seen almost daily this
week.
