I don't know if you are familiar with the work of the Sail The World non-profit organisation. It does work as a Passagemaking Community, though it is more sail-oriented. Your can have a look at : http://www.stw.fr/localisation/localisation.cfm Each "square" of the map can be zoomed in for a more precise view of a limited area of the globe. Also, each boat can have a more or less detailed "profile" attached to its location and can also publish pictures. All in French I'm afraid, but a source of inspiration maybe ? Hope that helps ! I've been trying to use Google Earth to create a Passagemaking Community, where we could track many voyages. Unfortunatly I have not figured out how to create it and make it available to others. I'm going to try a bit more because if we can figure out how to do this it would be much more valuable than a static jpg.
