Noel Herdman, Peter Veighey
Visitors:
Thank you to all of the interested visitors today, it was a beautiful day
in the park regardless of the small hawk count. Thank you to observers,
Michael, Noel, Juliette, Peter and Aldo.
Weather:
The weather today was warmer than expected, the sun quickly heated up to
the mid-teens. The wind was southeast most of the day which likely
suppressed hawk migration.
Raptor Observations:
There were relatively few raptors flying today, however the majority were
red-tailed hawks. There were very few red-shoulders and only one small
spurt of turkey vultures far to the north. There were a few falcons flying
today, which have been missing for at least a week. We had a few merlins, a
kestrel and a peregrine falcon. There were also a handful of coopers hawks,
sharp shinned hawks and harriers.
Non-raptor Observations:
There were many less ducks on the marsh this morning, likely scared off due
to hunting in the west end of the marsh, however they usual suspects filed
in throughout the day. We were happy to see a group of 26 green winged
teals on the marsh, and a group of hooded mergansers flying close to the
tower. Passerine counts were relatively low today, however, a late palm
warbler was spotted at the base of the tower and stuck around until the end
of the day.

Predictions:
Tomorrow will be one of the last really nice weather days and winds will be
very similar to today. Likely, there will be few raptors flying over the
tower, but there is always the chance for something new!
