Whilst I think that this is an important  consideration.  Indeed I
should imagine that relatively lower fuel usage is one of the major
reasons for interest in a  catamaran for many enthusiasts.
I think that with the larger boats where,  initial costs and other
incidentals such as mooring and insurance are much higher, the fuel
cost must be put into the  picture as a whole.
As an example, if one were to pay $200k less for one boat over another;
that capital could be invested and the interest alone would buy you
6000 gallons of fuel a year.
