I am looking at replacing the teak deck on a 41' Blue Seas trawler. Starting
with the bow area which is leaking and in need of work. The rest of the deck
is in pretty good shape. Anyone who has used the fake stuff have any
suggestions on the job. It would be a DIY job and I would like to just do the
bow area for now and try to match the remaining deck with the new stuff for
now. I realize that may be asking a lot on matching it but hey, I can dream
can't ?? Thanks!

I just saw Plas_deck by Lonseal flooring in our marina office. The salesman
used to work here. It looked and felt great. If you supply them with a
cardboard template, they will make-up the deck for you. Then you glue it
down. The complex sample had black and white seams as well as curves, etc.
It even had one edge which was curved down.
No clue about cost. It feels like teak.

I am currently looking into the synthetic decks. I'm interested in applying
it over my current teak deck, which is on it's last legs. I want to sand my
current deck flat, then glue the synthetic on top of that. Flexiteek
responded that their glue is recommended only to install their deck onto
fiberglass. Their installation cost is $35/s.f. This does not include
removal of the old deck. PlasTeak never responded to my question about
applying over old teak.
If I have to remove the old teak deck, I'm just going to Fiberglass over it
and be done.
Not familiar with Plas-Deck. A URL would be helpful.

Mea culpa Keith. Although the man who showed it to me was the Lonseal
salesman, it turns out another company makes PlasDECK.

It still looked great. BTW, Lonseal does make a vinyl replica of a teak and
holly sole for indoor use only. Looked good in satin finish. I think that
Defender sells it.

FWIW: My neighbor (in Spain) installs Tek Dek. I have seen his installs in
the marina, and he has shown me the difference between his product and other
products that other boats have had installed. The Tek Dek is the best looking
of them all.
It seems to be easier to install than competitive products. He helped a boat
in the marina who was having problems with a self install of a competitive
product. Because we have a drink with this chap from time to time in the
marina bar, my neighbor charged him 1/2 his usual labor $ on an hourly basis.
He still made as much $ as he would have on a regular install of his own
product. = it took him twice as long to install the competitive product.
The flexibility of the strips seems to be important if you want to have a full
strip follow the deck contour at the toe rails.
Here is an estimate I generated this morning for 150 sq ft. The British pound
is about $2US, so double the price and add transport.
I have no idea if this product is available in North America, but it is
flexible enough to be roled up and shipped in a tube
