everyone that the observation knoll is closed to members of the public and
has a 5-person limit reserved for the Hawk Counters. Thank you to all who
are
respecting these precautions. Be safe everyone and

times while at the site.
.
Thanks to Chris B for doing today's count.
Weather:
Temps ranged from 20C-23C. Winds were more or less W from 12-18 km/h with a
slight increase from the NW, with the occasional gust. Cloud cover varied
from 10%-70% and humidity values dropped nicely by late morning.
Raptor Observations:
The unyielding West wind at ground level probably didnât tell the whole
story, because over 500 raptors trudged into it from the East anyway.
Broad-wings led with just over 300 consisting of singles and kettles of up
to 50 or so. American Kestrels and Sharp-shins also made fine showings. A
lone Peregrine cruised inland about 4:45 P.M., making it one of the last
birds of the day.
Non-raptor Observations:
Non-raptors observations were fewer (because there were raptors to
observe!), but another three Common Nighthawks were noteworthy.
Non-raptors included: Canada Goose, Herring Gull, Ring-billed Gull,
Double-crested Cormorant, American Crow, European Starling, Blue Jay,
American Goldfinch, Gray Catbird, House Wren, Ruby-throated Hummingbird,
Chimney Swift, Downy Woodpecker, Northern Flicker, Northern Cardinal, Cedar
Waxwing, Barn Swallow, Bank Swallow, Mourning Dove, Eastern Kingbird,
American Redstart, Palm Warbler, Common Nighthawk.
Predictions:
Monday looks very good for a decent flight with northerly winds for the day
and lots of sunshine. Remember that we're entering into the prime time
week for the Broadwing flight!
