Just a couple of things…

HELP Committee Crystal Ball. Via CEF, hearing the following are likely priorities for the Senate Health Education Labor and Pensions (HELP) Committee in the next Congress:
Child Abuse Prevention and Treatment Act (CAPTA)
Education Sciences Reform Act (ESRA) - There was a bill, not too long ago, that died. No time to get into it now, but I’m glad to hear this coming up again, as it there are adult ed implications… we can review this next week.
Corporation for National and Community Service (CNCS) - there is recognition that it's due for reauthorization but also as you know it's also controversial, so not sure about how likely. Again, some adult ed implications.
Higher Education Authorization (HEA) - We know it's a priority for Sen. Alexander. Sticking point is that he would be OK with doing it in pieces, while the Ranking member, Sen. Murray (WA) wants piecemeal, Murray wants comprehensive
Actual Legislation. Speaking of HELP, the Committee unanimously approved reauthorization of the Museum and Library Services Act yesterday. Again, I’ll defer further detail until our call next week. Perhaps our friend Kevin Maher from ALA can be persuaded to give us a summary of what may be of interest in the bill? :)

Farm Bill. Sheryl Cohen of CEF mentioned at our meeting this morning that it's looking like when the Farm bill finally goes, it’s likely the SNAP provisions will look like Senate version of the bill, which is good news.

Great update Jeff.    Any insights into the new Chair of the House Education and Workforce committee Bobby Scott from Newport News?    We have an active program there I will contact…at the very least should be better than our the last Chair.
