Hi,

I was wondering if any of you have any suggestions on books, articles, publications etc. that I should check out for my oral exams (and subsequent dissertation research).  I have chosen to be tested in the area of virtual community, and thought you would have the best ideas.

Thanks in advance for your help,

Alison

Alison,

I've put our social computing reading list from last year up here:
http://www.cc.gatech.edu/~asb/teaching/gt-socialcomputing-qual07.doc

We're a program in human-centered computing, not sociology... but that
may help a little.

Best,

Amy

Alison,

You may be interested in a paper a colleague and I recently published on
email interaction:
Menchik, D., and X. Tian. (2008) "Putting Social Contexts into Text: The
Semiotics of Email Interaction." /The American Journal of Sociology/.
114:2 pp. 332-70.

You can find the paper here: http://menchik.com/Menchik_Tian_AJS.pdf

There are plenty of cites in there on dyadic and group interaction online.

I hope this helps.

Dan
