An important follow-up: we can also celebrate that CITAMS member Mary L. Gray, an anthropologist and media scholar, was among the MacArthur Genius grant winners (https://www.macfound.org/fellows/1061/)!
Mary's book, “Ghost Work: How to Stop Silicon Valley from Building a New Global Underclass” (https://ghostwork.info/) was a 2020 CITAMS Book Award Honorable Mention.
Congratulations, Mary! I'm so impressed by the incredible work being done by our CITAMS membership.
Sincerely,
Andrew
P.S. And thanks to Tim Recuber for the heads up!

Subject: Congratulations to "Genius" CITAMS Sociologists!
Dear CITAMS Members,
Please join me and the CITAMS Council in extending a huge congratulations to two sociologists, Forrest Stuart and Tressie McMillan Cottom who were just named as MacArthur "Genius" Grant winners (https://www.nytimes.com/2020/10/06/arts/macarthur-genius-grant-winners-list.html)!
Forrest Stuart is a CITAMS member who won the 2020 CITAMS Best Paper Award for “Code of the Tweet: Urban Gang Violence in the Social Media Age” (https://academic.oup.com/socpro/article-abstract/67/2/191/5481058). Tressie McMillan Cottom has long been a friend of the section and is the co-author of an edited volume on Digital Sociologies (https://tressiemc.com/digital-sociologies-the-book/).
Beyond the inherent coolness of being an official "genius," this fellowship is an extraordinary recognition of the importance of these scholar work to date and potential for the future.
Congratulations, Tressie and Forrest!
Sincerely,
Andrew Lindner
