Notice of Availability
Draft Environmental Impact Statement (DEIS)
MLK Subarea Plan
December 4, 2012

Dear MLK Community Members and Interested Parties:

Over the past year, the City and community have been working to prepare a Subarea Plan and Environmental Impact Statement for the MLK District, to encourage development and revitalization of this area over the next 20+ years.  The proposed Subarea Plan will supplement current Tacoma policies governing the environment, land use, economics, transportation, design resources, parks and recreation, public services, and utilities in order to implement the Plan.  The Draft EIS analyzes the potential environmental impacts associated with future development associated with the Subarea Plan, including the additional development and increases in employment and population that are being projected for in this area.

The City of Tacoma has issued the Draft Environmental Impact Statement (DEIS) and the Draft MLK Subarea Plan for agency and public review and comment.  The Daft Subarea Plan and Draft EIS are available for review through the project website (www.cityoftacoma.org/MLKPlanhttp://www.cityoftacoma.org/MLKPlan), at the City of Tacoma Community & Economic Development Department offices, and shortly at all branches of the Tacoma Public Library.

You are invited to review these documents and provide comments no later than January 17, 2013.  Comments may be submitted to the Project Manager via e-mail, fax, or standard mail, as outlined below.  The comments received on these draft documents will help determine what changes need to be made before preparing the final Subarea Plan and Final EIS.  The final Subarea Plan will then be subject to public hearings before the Planning Commission and City Council, before final adoption of the plan, which is currently scheduled for June 2013.

Public Open House
A public open house is being held from 6 pm to 8 pm, Wednesday, December 5, 2012 at the Evergreen State College Tacoma Campus (1210 6th Avenue). The purpose of the open house is to provide an opportunity for community members to come and learn more about the draft plan and draft environmental documents and how they can provide input.

Please submit comments to the Project Manager:
